Senior Housing Crime Prevention Webinar to Focus on CRA Credits and Positive P.R.

In conjunction with the ICBA, the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation and the Florida Bankers Association, we are pleased to bring FBA members a 30-minute webinar geared to provide them with the information they need to get their banks CRA credit while receiving a guaranteed annual yield and no credit risk exposure.

The Senior Housing Crime Prevention has been reviewed by all federal banking regulatory agencies and has passed the rigors of multiple regulatory exams.

In addition, the program offers:

•     Bank directed security selection and CRA assessment area selection;

•     Gain CRA credit by protecting our nation’s Veterans or elderly nursing home population;

•     No overhead commitments or administrative burden; and

•     Positive exposure in your communities adding immeasurably to your banks solid reputation

What regulators are saying:

“The FDIC has been a strong supporter of the Foundation. It has been my experience that financial institutions are responsible community leaders, they are crucial to the well being of our neighborhoods and this kind of program really is as good of an example as any of what can be done when the financial industry focuses attention on neighborhood problems.”  – Martin Gruenberg, Acting Chairman of the FDIC

“The OCC has a long history of supporting the mission of the Foundation, to provide crime prevention services to low and moderate income seniors in nursing home facilities and has continued to demonstrate the support for the program by providing positive CRA consideration for the loans and investments banks make in the Foundation. I think that one of the greatest assets of the Foundation is that it is set up to allow a bank different options to loan or invest funds in the organization. The type and amount of CRA consideration depends on the option the bank chooses, through either a community development loan or a qualified CRA investment.” – Grovetta Gardineer, Deputy Comptroller for Compliance Policy, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency

The webinar will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 3:00 PM EST. To register, please click HERE.

SHCPF: Florida Banks Commended for Participation in the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation

The mighty Mississippi River was a spectacular backdrop for the 7th annual Doing Well by Doing Good Bankers Conference in Memphis, TN.  The setting was especially significant as the Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary in its birthplace and headquarters.  More than 200 bankers from across the country gathered on October 7-8, 2010 at the Peabody Hotel.  Florida bankers from across the state attended the conference including Tim Terry from Enterprise Bank of Florida, Covington Sharpe from Cornerstone Community Bank in St. Petersburg, and Mellissa Slover from CNL Bank in Orlando.

In the last decade, the Foundation has positively affected the lives of 4,127,000 seniors, reducing crime by 92.59 percent.   The mission of the Foundation is to provide safe and secure living environments for the nation’s senior housing residents through sponsorship of the Senior Crimestoppers program and to provide a conduit for banks to earn risk-free, high-yielding CRA loan, investment and service credit.  Senior Crimestoppers is currently in operation in nursing homes in 45 states.  Currently there are 10 Florida banks providing safety and security to over 2,500 senior nursing home residents throughout the state.

During his remarks, Martin Gruenberg, Vice Chairman of the FDIC said, “It is a pleasure for me to see the work the banking community is doing through this Foundation.  It is truly an exceptional service!  Anyone who has had interaction with senior housing understands that the central concern to the well being of those residents is security.  If they do not feel secure, it’s not only a threat to their physical well being but to their emotional well being and their general health.  This is not an exaggeration.  A program such as this is able to bring peace of mind to the residents of these facilities is no small thing; it is a significant contribution to the quality of their life.  The FDIC has been a strong supporter of the Foundation and the Senior Crimestoppers program.  It has been my experience that financial institutions are responsible community leaders, they are crucial to the well being of our neighborhoods and this kind of program really is as good of an example as any of what can be done when the financial industry focuses attention on neighborhood problems.  I would like to commend you all for your participation.”

John Reich, SHCPF Board Member and Former Director of the OTS added, “It is a pleasure to be affiliated with the Foundation whose mission is to provide safe and secure living environments around the country.  I think the Senior Crimestoppers program that the Foundation implements goes a long way in providing security to those individuals and peace of mind to family members through components of the program to address these issues.  I very much appreciate that the bank regulatory agencies have recognized the value of the Foundation’s work and have chosen to recognize loans and investments in which banks through the Foundation vie for Community Reinvestment Act credit.  I continue to look forward to working with the Foundation to advance the work and expand the services and coverage to financial institutions around the country that are not currently covered.”

To spotlight the 10th anniversary celebration, the first annual Distinguished Service Awards were awarded to those who were instrumental in helping the Foundation get to its present state.   The first award was presented to the former Comptroller of the Currency, Mr. John D. “Jerry” Hawke.  Hawke graciously accepted the award stating, “I must say that looking at these fantastic accomplishments of the Foundation over the last 10 years and reading your annual report which details those, I feel very humble about any contribution I might have made at the outset at the Foundation’s life.  And of course it was the wonderful staff of the OCC, the people who ran the Community Reinvestment Act program and who responded to the obvious merits of this program, who really deserve the credit for getting things going.  I accept this award on behalf of all the people at the OCC who made a contribution.”

Other recipients of the Distinguished Service Award were Brad Barrett, president of the Tennessee Bankers Association, Lewis Holland, former vice chairman of National Commerce Financial (NBC Bank of Memphis, TN), and Tom Garrott, chairman of National Commerce Financial (NBC Bank of Memphis, TN).
